About
Hello, my name is Ashley (I am 25).
I am getting my PhD in Rhetoric and Composition back home in Indiana. Thus, I study a lot. I write a lot. I read a lot. Also, I teach on top of that. I drink coffee like water to study. And I drink wine to cope with the stress. With that said, I am a stress-eater. While I worked to finish up my thesis/oral exams, I noticed how much food I consumed to “get through.” This has happened all my life. I decided to make a change. I have always been a fan of the women food-bloggin’ subculture, and I thought I would give it a try. If I am putting my dietary habits out there, I have to be held accountable, right? With my own graduation, my brother’s, my birthday, and other summer events ahead, I think there is no better time than now.
With that said, I am not on a diet. I am trying to change my food habits. I love food way to much. I love derby pie way to much. This doesn’t mean I will eat cupcakes all day, unless it is a really bad day.
I value healthy foods and will make a sincere effort to really think about what goes into my body. Also, I am no athlete (unless it is soccer, I played up to college). So, I’m going to start working out, which will lead to some funny posts!
I look forward to meeting everyone.
Some things to Know About Me
- I watch A LOT of television (House, Real Housewives, Top Chef, Weeds, Dexter, Party Down, Mad Men, MTV crap, etc.). I get very emotional sometimes and cry.
- I am in coffee shops quite often. I am not good at working at home (see bullet 1)
- I love going out for and making breakfast. (The picture on the right shows my passion for Eggs Benedict)
- I have a boyfriend named Lars. He’s finishing up his PhD and he will make some appearances.
- I watch a lot of documentaries on my Netflix while “working.”
- I watch too much Lifetime Movies.
- Since my career involves a lot of reading, I don’t get to do it for leisure unless it is the summer.
- I teach college freshmen about the world and writing.
- I am learning how to cook, so be patient.
- I love attending and hosting parties.
- I have an obsession for typeface.
- I was voted “Most Likely to be a Stand-Up Comedian” in high school. So I may be funny? I like funny things.
- I watch everything Tori Spelling. I’m talking “Co-ed Call Girl” (Lifetime) and “Home Sweet Hollywood.” I don’t understand it. It may have started with Beverly Hills, 90210.
Basically, this is my life:

thanks for stopping by my blog. Did you know that I was also voted “most likely to be a comedian” in high school as well…on top of that I like all things cheesy (rh of ny etc) ANDDDDD one of my fave films was “mother, may I sleep with danger” starring the one and only Tori Spelling…”friends till the end” with shannon dougerty is my number one though. OHHHHH and my bf and I both have our doctorates…we have tonza in common.
I love friends til the end. Sometimes I sing “Can Anybody Here Me” to my sister. Haha.
Haha, you are awesome!! Thanks for visiting my blog and I can’t wait to read more about you! I watch a TON of crap tv too. Sometimes my bf even wonders how I have time to watch it all; it’s a finely honed skill
I’ve been bless to have the skill of multi-tasking, so I can watch TV while I write papers. But, it has to be crappy TV, because it doesn’t involve a lot of brain action.

Hi Ashley,
Just stumbled across your blog for the first time– it’s great! Love the food and your writing style. I’m also in grad school getting my PhD now (in Clinical Psych) though I was an English major in college. Congrats on passing your defense!
I’ll definitely be a regular visitor!
Natasha
Hey, Ashley!
I just stumbled across your blog, and am really happy to have done so
Love it! I too was an English major–and, up until about two months ago, PhD-bound (not rhet/comp, though…literature.). I’m going to be teaching English abroad for the upcoming year, but am actually considering making the rhet-comp switch when I get back to the States (one of my best friends is at Pitt right now, and she’s making it sound appealing).
And I too, am a totaly foodie at heart
So many English majors are, lol!
Anyway, love the blog, and you definitely have yourself yet another reader. When I actually get around to creating a blogroll, you will totally be on it.
Take care,
Jenny
Thanks for stopping by my blog!!
I’ve watched a ridiculous amount of movies with Tori Spelling in them . . . actually, I just watched House Sitter a week or so ago. Its my guilty pleasure. That and anything on the Disney Channel.
You know, you’re the first fellow Hoosier food blogger I’ve found! I don’t know why it took me so long, because we follow a lot of the same blogs. I love the layout of your site–it’s so fresh and colorful.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Great work on yours! I see your also a Hoosier
I’ll add you to my reader so I can see what you’re up to!
I just found your blog today! LOVE it! I’ll definitely be adding you to my reader! I also have an obsession for watching lots of tv! Good for you starting a PhD program! And, I understand your not being able to read for leisure unless it’s the summer…I teach English so I am always reading texts that the students are reading or I am reading their writing!!
Love your About Me page… I’m a Tori fan, too. I’m working my way through the old 90210 right now. Just finished the end of season 3… where everyone graduated from high school.
Look forward to following you!
Hello! I’m so happy I found your blog…and that you have found mine! I’m about to start an MFA in Creative Writing at Texas State. I will be TAing a sophomore composition this fall, which will be exciting. It seems like we have a lot in common (english nerds, mad men fans) and I have bookmarked your blog as one of my favorites.
A PhD in English – wow. I can’t imagine how many books you’ve read in your lifetime! Excited to READ more about you =)

Hi Ashley!
I recently found your blog and honestly, your blog makes me feel better about myself. You just seem so real and honest – plus your taste in food and tv shows is da bomb (aha)! My Life on the D List? Party Down (RIP)? And you met Eugene Mirman? Jealous!! I like your recipies and your writing style so, I hope you keep it up! I look forward to hearing about your PhDventures and I’ll try to occasionally contribute something profound/witty in a comment. Also I really enjoy your love of the wine…I too love a glass or 3 (haha). Perhaps we could swap reccomendations? Anyway this is long and I hope I haven’t frightened you…*ahem*
Take care!
Heather
Hey Heather. I would love to swap wine ideas. I want to do a post called “The Best Wines Under 7 Bucks,” because that is usually my price range. I cannot wait until I have more money for classier bottles. Thanks for stopping by. Email anytime if you’d like.

I just stumbled upon your blog and am so glad I did! I’m studying Rhet/Comp as well and we seem to have the same love for coffee and wine. I’m a stress eater, too, so I know the tricky balance of school and health.
Anyways, I’ll be reading! Happy blogging!
Just stumbled across your blog and loved it. I am a total stress eater too, and wine is a great love of mine. I of course had to subscribe to your blog to read all about your eating adventures!!
I’m so happy I just came across your blog. I’m a student too (although not PhD) and I can totally relate to the struggle of balancing school, exercise, socializing and making and eating delicious food! By the looks of it you do a very good job. I can’t wait to keep reading!
