Ginger Ale, please.

12 Aug

I was so, very sick last night. I was curled up in a ball with horrible abdominal/stomach cramps. It was a roller coaster of pain from 8:30 to 12:30 PM (although I felt slight pain the entire day). Luckily Lars is sweet and ran to the store  to get me medicine and diet ginger ale. I feel much better this morning. Much better.

But let’s start at the beginning. The day (up to the sickness) was a good one, for many reasons.

1. I made whole wheat snickerdoodle cookies.

I found this recipe on Whole Grain Gourmet and I am so glad I did. I thought about my snickerdoodle all day long, paired with a delicious scoop of ice cream for dessert. But, then I got sick. So, I’ll be thinking about this dessert until dessert time tonight.

This recipe made 32 cookies. I only baked 9, and froze the rest of the cinnamon-covered balls on a cookie sheet in the freezer. Once the cookie balls froze, I put them in a plastic bag. So when I want a warm snickerdoodle, I just open the freezer door.

2. I made an awesome soup.

My go-to cooking expert, Cooking Light, provided a delicious recipe for Tomato Soup with Chickpeas and Pesto. The soup was so hearty and filling. I can see myself eating a lot of this in the winter. Also, it is so easy.

Lars and I used our Multigrain loaves from Schwann's for dipping. Yum.

3. Lars got me flowers.

Lars was gone most of the day doing school work, but when he came back he had flowers.

Well, I am tempted to watch this History Channel special on the 7 Deadly Sins.

Snickerdoodle and ice cream…snickerdoodle and ice cream…

Sicky Birthday

11 Jun

So, I woke up sicker than ever. Great, it is my birthday. I was only able to sleep 6 hours because of my throat. Luckily, Lars brought me tea in bed this morning. It made me feel better for awhile. I’m posting later, because I couldn’t decide what I wanted for breakfast. Everything sounded horrible; food sounded horrible. Then to make matters worse, my parents had to cancel my birthday dinner, because everyone else is sick. It is a sicky birthday, for sure.

Further, I was having a horrible hair day. Nothing could be done with my “bangs.” Thus, as of now, I have only a hair appointment planned for my birthday. I am excited about this, though. I’ll post pictures post haircut (unless it is butchered). Anyway, this is a food blog. Lars convinced me that I had to eat. For some reason I wanted a scone and tea. That was it. So we drove to a local coffee shop (well 2) and got me a plain whole grain scone.

Scone

This was perfect for my sicky self. This scone was slightly sweet, but it wasn’t overpowering in flavor. This is great, because I was sick and the thought of food made my stomach turn. It also paired well with the “Get Well” Tea I bought at the local coffee shop.

Tea

The tea (along with drugs) is really working. Hopefully I can salvage what is left of my birthday! Sorry, I am so emotional! I think I’m still trying to recover from last semester. :) And, being sick on your birthday is not fun! Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Pudding Cures

9 Jun

I am feeling much better, thanks. Now, I may actually cook for dinner.

I took a long, long nap. When I woke up, I had a craving for something sweet. I found a vanilla, low-calorie pudding cup in my fridge. Hm, great…BORING! But then I thought: Chocolate Granola!

Granola and Pudding

So I sprinkled some chocolate granola into my vanilla pudding cup. It rocked my world. I’m going to run some errands and pick up some things for dinner. Have a good afternoon!

Hello everyone. Thanks for all the get-wells. I am feeling a bit better. I have been watching crappy television and drinking plenty of water and tea!

Tea

Tea Mug

I am moving out sometime soon, and I have so much crap in my cupboard. So, this post is brought to you by my cupboard. I found this tea for sore throats. Score! I was scared it would taste like potting soil. I had images of sitting in a tent in the middle of the desert taking this potion to cure my sickness, or whatever happens in the movies. It actually didn’t taste bad, and I think it worked! I drank this while laying in bed, but around 11 I was famished. So, I went back to the cupboard.

Burschetta

Bread

I toasted this baby bread (this has not been sitting in my cupboard ;) ), and then covered it with Trader Joe’s Bruschetta. This was a nice lunch treat!

Bruschetta on Toast

To help with the sickness, I made the soup. It was a little bland. It was less sodium, though.

Soup

While I’m sick, Bazzle the basil plant is better than ever. I haven’t killed it yet!

Bazzle

Well, I’m going to keep napping/relaxing/drinking tea! See you all at snack time. Happy Hump Day!

Sick Day

9 Jun

I was going to go to the gym this morning, but I am still sick. I hope it is only postponed to the later afternoon. Plus, I need more medicine. Then back to bed :) .

I wanted something quick so I had some cereal with strawberries. Yum. I usually don’t eat cereal because I am full for only 5 minutes, but I have a feeling I won’t really be hungry at all today.

Bowl of Cereal

I really enjoyed this cereal: Kashi Heart to Heart Warm Cinnamon. I think it would go great with apples.

Well, I am going to make some tea and head back to bed. I hope by lunch I feel a bit better :) . Internet TV marathon is on the agenda today…while flipping through food magazines!

What do you do for entertainment on a sick day?

Chicken Soup for the Foodie Soul

8 Jun

Hey!

I have been gone all day because I was (a) shopping for a new bike, (b) packing, and (c) driving back to my apartment. Before bike shopping, my father and brother went with me to McAlister’s Deli. Another day, another sandwich. I got turkey, yellow mustard, lettuce, and swiss on rye. It was just what I needed. I ate half of the pickle and half of my apple sauce.

Sadwich

Later on, before hitting the road, I had two pieces of my Cinnamon Spiral Cookies. For some reason, small cookies are dangerous and addicting.

As I mentioned in the last post, I have a sore throat. For dinner I decided to have some Chicken Noodle Soup and tea.

Tea and Soup

I found this soup in the cupboard: Operation Clean Out the Kitchen Before the Move! I decided I needed more veggies in my life. So, I got some fresh green beans, cut off their ends, added some seasoning (olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper), and roasted them in the oven.

Green Beans

No! They are not burnt! I love them slightly crispy. Yum :) . They were not as good as Lars’s mother’s, but I will soon steal that recipe…and they will be mine! Muahhaha. This dinner was the perfect pick-me-up for such a blah day. Have you ever had a blah day? Nothing went wrong, it was just LAME. Everything was LAME.

Tonight, I will relax and sleep off this sickness. Tomorrow is a new day. I am going to do something fun! I think some Lifetime Movies are in order!

Have you ever watched a Lifetime Movie? Do you have a favorite? Am I pathetic for liking them? They are too funny to hate them!

I recommend: Friends Til the End, Co-ed Call Girl, and She’s Too Young.

boo.

I woke up today with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. What the heck? I’m assuming it is because I slept in a freezer last night. I was planning to work out, but I am going to wait until I get back to school. I am going to go running. Isn’t that very exciting? I’m not too excited. All my fellow bloggers are kicking running butt, so that is an inspiration!

I didn’t want to eat breakfast, at all. I ended up forcing myself to eat, because I knew I would just feel worse if I did not. I am so excited about going back to my apartment with my food.

Breakfast

I was able to find a wheat frozen waffle so I toasted that and covered it with peanut butter. I also found a V8 fusion, which was great because I did have a craving for juice. Also, one of my cookies from last night got onto my plate. I don’t know how that happened.

To keep this post exciting, I thought I would share some of my favorites. Today’a category is FOOD.

  • Breakfast Food: Eggs Benedict. Whenever I travel somewhere, I have to try their Eggs Benedict. I am on a mission to find the best Eggs Benedict in the United States. Thus far, New Orleans is in the lead. I’m sure this egg-cellent journey of mine will pop up on my blog!
  • Favorite Dessert: Derby Pie. Anyone from Kentucky? This pie is essentially pecan pie with chocolate and bourbon.
  • Favorite Restaurant: Anything that is breakfast-oriented. Going out for breakfast is my favorite activity, especially after an “interesting” night.
  • Favorite meal of Mom’s: (my father doesn’t cook) Chicken Fried Rice, bread sticks (see last post), and potato chip chicken.
  • Favorite Beverage: Coffee, Wine, Latte.

My question for you: What is your favorite breakfast food?

I must be emo.

7 Jun

Just FYI. My blogger friends using the site Blogger: I have not been able to comment today on Blogger sites (the service keeps getting interrupted). I’ll show ya some love as soon as it is fixed. :)

I don’t know what my deal is today.

I took a 30-minute walk. (Okay, this may not really be a workout, but I am a beginner. Well, not really…but I haven’t done it in awhile. I got a lot of thinking done though!) I felt great until I got home; I was very dizzy. I wasn’t really tired, so I don’t know what it was. I thought maybe my blood sugar was low or something, so I grabbed the nearest granola bar. Now, I don’t usually eat these, but I’m not at my house. So, don’t judge. I WAS DYING. :)

Granola Bar

I drank a lot of water and hit the showers. I decided to have an early lunch because I was starving (and still dizzy). I had the other half of my sandwich from the deli adventure with Lars and one pretzel. I took some of the meat off so it could fit in my mouth. I felt much better once my stomach was full.

Sandwich

I went to Starbucks to work on my thesis revisions. I brought an apple and a Trader Joe’s 100-Calorie Dark Chocolate Bar to accompany my grande no-fat iced latte (still haven’t started the apple).

Trader Joe's Chocolate

Coffee Trip

I set up my study station, turned on my computer, and SHABAM…nothing. I had no desire, no motivation. and no idea how to start my work. I stared at a blank screen for 10 minutes, then packed everything up, and left. What the heck! I have been trying to start my schoolwork early, because this writer’s block happens often. Thus, I’m not going to push myself today, because I have more than enough time. Right? Well, whatever.

Sometimes I wish my schoolwork was as easy as blogging. For the rest of the day I will go shopping for an apron and a book. Then, I’m baking cookies (pictures to come). What do you do when you hit a roadblock with your work?
